Calling all enthusiasts about gemstones or geology, spiritualists, jewelry makers and rock lovers alike! It’s that time of year again. Yakima’s Rock and Mineral Club is hosting its 61st Annual Parade of Gems Rock and Mineral Show from April 26 through April 28 at the Modern Living Building inside the Yakima Fairgrounds.

A real treat of an event for locals and travelers in our city, the Yakima Rock and Mineral Club has hosted its Parade of Gems show every year since 1963, displaying and selling gemstones, rocks, and minerals from all corners of the world.

What to Expect at Yakima’s Rock and Mineral Show

This year, visit for the show’s special display, “Petrified Wood of the Northwest,” showcasing fossilized wood of all types and how the wood of million-year-old trees became solid rocks that we can still hold and touch today!

The show will also offer a children’s section, with prizes, fun facts, and activities for little ones to learn about Earth’s fantastic array of rocks and minerals and how they were formed.

Purchasing an admission ticket will also give you an entry in the raffle, which offers prizes to those who have their ticket drawn. Several winners will be announced daily, as well as door prizes for those who visit! There will also be silent auctions throughout the three-day event.

This year, there will be demonstrations on lapidary equipment, faceting, wire wrapping gemstones for jewelry making, gold panning, and a “Trash Can Volcano” demonstration.

Central Washington University will also be at the event to discuss STEM careers in geology. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in pursuing an education in geosciences to speak with those involved in the education and careers of geology and other geosciences.
